Being one of the newest of the underwater digital cameras, I had reasoned that surely the leak issues had been resolved. I bought this for snorkeling in Hawaii and on the second use, water got into it.
The few problems I have run into are: Won't center focus to take a picture and flashes a red box instead of green, warning that if you take the picture it won't be in focus. I have run into this twice, but I just turned the camera off then back on and the picture took just fine of the exact same subject I was originally trying to focus on. It was the perfect camera for her, not only did she make some great shots of scenery, but awesome close-ups. It is easy to use and clear with great options.
This camera is truly garbage. The Olympus Stylus was the only camera I owned that cracked its LCD - and it didn't even fall.
I took 30 pictures at my 3 year olds birthday party (at a water park) and I had to edit every single one when I downloaded them to my computer. Colors were washed out by the aggressive flash on any close-up pictures. The camera never seems to struggle to adjust to get the best pictures as other point and shoots have for me in the past. Lastly the software that comes on the camera is very simple to use and not all extra complicated and filled with useless options. This being said, it has broke twice while using it underwater. The screen will say "no connection" when I try to turn it on.
The price seems to be drive by the tough features vs quality of pictures and video. I purchased this camera for a trip to the Caribbean. I am not going to be going on an amazing vacation and need amazing, stellar pictures that sell them self. Come to find out, I am pleased. In short, it's a great little camera. I think you'll be the most satisfied with it if you know some basic concepts of photography (such as providing adequate and appropriate lighting), but this is a solid little camera.
This camera is head and shoulders above the other point and shoot cameras for snorkeling, outdoor shots, video in at least a decently lit location, and even indoors within 5 feet of the camera. My favorite setting continues to be - AUTO!
Last, I wasn't able to find a details view of any picture or movie file to see the kb size. I expected a 300.00 camera to not have the lens protector issue. It was extremely frustrating. The settings were also not intuitive. I'm waiting for a reply on this. To their credit, Olympus tech support is prompt, once you get past the phone tree.
I ended up returning it and buying a Nikon s8100 for about the same price. The pic and video/audio quality is fine and I'm happy with it.
