When you know how to play the guitar, you will realize that it is an interesting instrument to play. However, there are some guiding principles in order to be a good guitarist. You should have a tuner since it makes it easy to remember the string and note combination. It is important that when using a tuner that the room you are in is very quiet. This is due to the fact that there is a microphone on the tuner and it can pick other sounds in the room.

Another important aspect is to comprehend the notes. There is scheme of music notes called guitar tablature. You should be able to read the tabs. There are numbers and their purpose is to notify you the fret you will hold down when you pluck the string.

Holding the guitar, place your fingers on the frets. People who use their left hand, their right hand will be used to fret while their left hand will be for strumming. It is important to have short finger nails so that the fret board will not be damaged. Remember that you only play using your fingertips. You might also need to hold several strings at a time. This can be quite challenging at first. It necessitates that you practice for some time and figure out what will suit you better.

The next step will be strumming. This will be in two ways, down stroke and upstroke. Remember not to exact a lot of pressure on the strings while strumming. You can use a pick or your own fingers to strum, whichever works best for you. A pick is held between the side of middle finger and thumb. It is advisable to use a thin pick for beginners.

Another aspect that needs concentration is on the chords. Keep practicing until you are able to get a rhythm. It will take quite some time before you get a perfect tune but at least it is a step towards being better at it.

You will then have to learn playing at least one song first. Listen to the song first before playing. Get the rhythm of the song and then start playing slowly first then pick up the speed gradually. Practice on several songs before moving on to more complex ones. With time you will be an expert.

Learning how to play the guitar is quite easy when equipped with the above knowledge. It takes time to be good at it but eventually you will be a professional at it. Remember that even the experts were once beginners.
