Painting Fine Art with The Warmth of Yellow

By Cole Harris

Like a lot of famous artists, Van Gough loved using the color yellow. Happier times and warm feelings are given off by the color yellow. Yellow is a primary color with violet as its complementary color. Both yellow and violet go exceptionally good together. Yellow is a beautiful color and seen in nature in the sun and wonderful cherry flowers. To bring warmth, happiness and brightness to a room just accessorize with some yellow or yellow accents. The same is true in your paintings.

Feelings are made by the color yellow:

The viewer will have their own spiritual and psychological meaning which they attach to each color. To make you feel like you are in sunlight the color yellow is used because it is so warm. Yellow touches the soul with happiness and enjoyment. Spiritually speaking the color yellow evokes feelings of joy or making a joyful noise as is mentioned many times in scripture. Psychologically speaking yellow is a very strong connection to sunlight which is warmth and contentment for most individuals. Another association people have with yellow is it is a rich color representing gold. Both men and women enjoy yellow:

Colors used to be assigned to certain genders but the y are not anymore now both genders enjoy the color yellow. If you are having a child and do not know the gender, painting the nursery in a pale yellow will be a perfect environment for either a boy or a girl. Even though yellow looks dashing on a painting you will not catch many woman wearing it as it clashes with lots of skin tones.

What constitutes the yellow part of yellow paint?

The natural colors in the earth as well as ocher usually blend to get a yellow color. Coming from Cobalt, Potassium and Cadmium and other Copper components paints of today vary widely. Cadmium not only comes in light yellow but also comes in yellow. Many yellow paints are available in oils like Hansa Yellow, Azo Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Naples Yellow, Yellow Ocher and really many more. Mixing yellow:

When mixing colors it is always best to go from light to dark. To bring a value to a lighter level is much harder than it is to darken a color. Yellow is a primary color and being one is also used to make triad and secondary colors. Yellow gives a warmth to any color you mix it with.

To get a gold color all you have to do is use a small dot of brown. To get a fruit color just add a dot of grey to yellow it will make a great green and add a dot or red to make a wonderful orange color. Adding small amounts of color at a time is the key to successfully mixing paints. Paint that dries in oil especially will appear slightly lighter once it dries on your canvas.
