Now that you have decided that you will have a successful musical career, what next?
Decide on what you want to do in the music industry: Rap, Play Guitar or another instrument, sing, or maybe all of them. As you read this I'm sure you are saying 1 of 2 things, "I have talent, I am going to be successful" or "I have no talent, I can't be successful. You both couldn't be more incorrect.
We are now going to discuss talent versus skill.
Now as you sit there and say to yourself that you were or were not born with talent, think about this: even if you were born with talent or not, your opposite does not have a greater chance of succeeding in the music business than you do. Just because you are born with talent, does not mean you will be successful.
The ones that become successful in the music business are the ones that are skilled at what they do. Keep in mind, i'm talking about people with a career of more than 15 years. The crazy thing is the people that are born with talent and the people that are not can develop whatever it is they would like to do into a skill. All it takes is time and hard work.
Take a look at producers like Quincy Jones. Do you think his career lasted so long because he didn't practice? NO. He spent much time studying, learning, rehearsing, practicing. Everything and anything to get better at his craft. He was able to work with such artists like Michael Jackson and I have the highest selling album to date because of his skill. Not from magic. It wasn't luck. It wasn't even talent. It was all skill!
Now here's something amazing: ANYBODY can build a talent into a skill. Even if you are born with talent or not, you can make it into a skill. Many of the "talented" don't practice. And many of the "non-talented" fall into the trap of believing that they can be talented. Where you don't need to be talented at all; just be skilled.
The saying is "You are required to use 10,000 hours before you master a skill." Have you touched 5000 hours? 1000? Even 100?
