The Adversity That Is Political Corruption

By Doris Rivas

In the process of handling their officially designated tasks, some unscrupulous leaders do such acts as embezzlement of funds, bribery and stealing of property that belongs to the public. Such acts are what make up political corruption. They commit such acts as a way of achieving some individual gains not minding those poor people grinding in poverty. Such acts constitute political; corruption. Private individuals or those that hold offices in private corporations do not have the capacity to commit these evils.

Legal formalities in different countries may judge an omission differently such that it could be right in one country but strictly wrong in another. In other words, that which is prosecuted as a political wrong in one nation may possibly be prosecuted as a civil evil in another jurisdiction. Going by natural justice though, all deeds of such kinds are unacceptable. Legal structures are not identical in any two countries.

Multinational corporations consider very many factors when considering cross-border trading and investment. Among the most important considerations made by such companies is the stability of governance in the prospective country. It is common knowledge that such corporations will always be put off by a state where the bigwigs are the menace. It is worth noting that even the potential investors within the borders of the country will as well be demoralized.

The evil deeds of those in power impact adversely on the economy of a country. For instance, the people in senior administration may embezzle funds that could have been used to achieve development of the country. Dishonesty is common in many nations and is the fundamental reason for the poverty in third world nations. Human rights activists have been championing for fairness in administrations in vain.

The international criminal court based at The Hague in the Netherlands has handled many cases against humanity. All these crimes are associated with election corruption that brought about such cases as murder, rape, vandalism and displacement of people. The wrongful use of power to steal from the innocent countrymen is among the most serious crimes.

The impacts of public malpractices extend to the physical environment. It is rather apparent that leaders and powerful rulers are fond of embezzling funds meant for the preservation and maintenance of the environment. Agricultural resources get wasted and the people are left wallowing in immense poverty.

Extreme regional imbalances are not fair at all. They usually come as a result of imbalances in the distribution of national wealth with a favorable bias to the areas preferred by political bigwigs. The human right agencies have tried to fight this practice but unfortunately, they have not been able to achieve because they are working under the same law established by such political players. They do not respect the law that they make through their legislative duties.

For a country to be prosperous and peaceful, political corruption should be discouraged with a lot of seriousness. Anti-corruption campaigns must be launched and be taken to the grassroots levels. The common countryman would love to live and work peacefully all the time.
