When you hear the term Christmas, what exactly comes to your head? I suppose most of us would want to think of gifts, food, family and probably anything that makes us feel great. Well, that is what Christmas is really all about. It should remind us of all of the great things that life brings. No matter how big or small our income or savings might be, Christmas should be celebrated with happiness and joy. It does not truly matter how much or how little we're sharing so long as we are giving it heartily. This is the real essence of Christmas.
Nevertheless, beyond the fancy presents, personalized Christmas cards, delectable dinner or the somewhat infinite merrymaking, I think that we should not forget the reason why we have Christmas.
When I was a lot youthful, my parents used to tell me stories about Jesus Christ. I recall that the plot of his birth or what many of us may refer to as the nativity was actually my personal favorite. I believe that it was actually the most amazing story about Jesus Christ before he was nailed in the cross. That's simply because it feels so humbling to learn that a person as exceptional as him will be born with extreme simplicity. Perhaps, during that time, it was even a very inexpensive way to be delivered.
These days, expecting mothers would carefully select the medical center they are likely to give birth and partners would need to spare a lot of money for this particular event. Before having a baby, pregnant women will need to purchase plenty of items for the unborn baby and we now have the modern technology that allows us to take a glimpse of the way our unborn babies look like. I guess giving birth these days has become very extravagant.
During Jesus' time, he was delivered inside a manger. A manger is actually a shelter created for animals. So essentially, when Mary had been having labor pains, she was seeing farm animals. And if baby Jesus can see, he would have first looked at farm animals aside from his mother and father. There had been no doctors and no nurses to assist them.
I just hope that every time we have Christmas or want to give some business Christmas cards, we would at all times remember the humbleness that God has shown us. And as much as we are able to, we must constantly make ourselves humble and extend this humility to others. I hope that it doesn't only happen on the twenty fifth of December but the whole year round. By doing this, we would have not been fortunate to help Jesus during the time of his delivery but we'll definitely have lived up to the lessons and ideals that He has told us.
