Photo Requirements For Singapore Passport Application

By Larry Bent

Pictures used for official government-issued documents generally abide by strict rules. This is also true for pictures for passports issued in Singapore. The Southeast Asian country would deny passport applications immediately if the photo attached doesn't adhere to its picture standards. If you're applying for a Singapore passport, make sure to follow instructions from the Singapore Passport Agency precisely to avoid rejection of your application. Better yet, have an expert photographer take your picture. They know precisely how to take a Singapore passport picture.

The standard photo size for a Singaporean passport is similar to the size used in other Asian nations, as well as in Italy, Australia, and Britain, which is 3.5cm x 4.5cm. It must be borderless in sharp and clear matte or semi-matte texture. You would need to submit 2 copies to the Agency or submit a 514x400 pixel digital copy in JPEG format in a CD. The file should not go over 60 KB.

When taking a passport photo, look directly into the camera and open your eyes wide. Don't cover or alter facial features, like birthmarks, moles, or tattoos, if you have any. The photo should show the top of your shoulder and the whole of your head. Your head should be upright and your face placed in the middle, measuring 2.5cm x 2.5cm from the top to the chin.

Hats and headwear are only allowed to be worn in the picture if they are customarily worn for religious, cultural, or racial customs. And if you're wearing one, it shouldn't obstruct your face in any way in the picture. Clear glasses are allowed if they are also ordinarily worn, but the frame shouldn't cover your eyes and the lens should not reflect the flash. You may not wear sunglasses or any other coloured lenses, though. Your backdrop should be plain white, but if you have the same hair colour or head cover, you can use a slightly grey background.

passport photo singapore requirements, which are similar with the visa photo requirements, are very strict. Any deviation from the standards set will be rejected. The Agency will even reject substandard photo prints so make sure your picture is clear and has no discolouration or stain on it. You can take your photo yourself using a digital camera, but to make sure that your photo follows all requirements, go to a professional photography service instead.
