Playing A Great Sounding G Chord With The Vintage Rickenbacker Guitar

By Lee Larossier

For guitar enthusiasts, the G chord comes in many different forms. This is especially true if these notes emanate from a handcrafted classic electric Rickenbacker guitar. Here is a look at this fine instrument and how it has made history.

Of all the Rickenbacker models, the 360/12 stands out from the rest. Some of the best rock groups have made use of this guitar. You can find this instrument with the Beach Boys, Beatles, and many others. This twelve string guitar performs as well on stage as it does inside of the recording studio.

Vintage guitar collectors love Ricky models from 1957 to about 1970. They are easy to play and offer great style, and most are equipped with the famous "toaster pickups" which resemble a bread toaster. The entire look brings back sweet memories to so many people.

Until 1963, the electric twelve string guitar is pretty much unknown, but this is about to change when the Beatles come to the United States. Rickenbacker company displays them in a New York hotel when the Beatles are in town and asks the boys for their opinions. John Lennon already has an acoustic model, but this is his first encounter with an electric one, and George Harrison decides to obtain one for himself.

If you look at past Rickenbacker users, you will see a "who's who" of rock and roll. Names like Pete Townsend, Joe Walsh, and Carl Wilson come to mind. You also will find these fine guitars in the hands of Tony Hicks, Suzanna Hoffs, and Steve Howe, and these are only a few.

One cannot think about 60's rock and roll without mentioning the Rickenbacker guitar. Its classic appearance and unique sound are now a part of history. If you decide to play your own style of G chord with one of these amazing instruments, you will own something that cannot be duplicated in this world of high technology and modern manufacturing.
