Tips In Announcing Your Wedding Engagement

By Cathy Franklin

When it comes to weddings, there are traditions and practices that bridal couples may not be aware of. While this isn't entirely surprising, it should be at least expected that they find time to know the most significant wedding etiquettes--- from engagement to the wedding celebration --- so that the wedding goes smoothly as it should.

One of the wedding etiquettes that bridal couples should not overlook is the formal announcement of their engagement. This is traditionally done by publishing a brief announcement on newspaper. Its purpose is to let everyone know about this upcoming event. Remember though that both parents of the bridal couple should have already been informed before spreading this news. Other ways of announcing this important event is by sending it electronically or by holding an engagement party.

If the bridal couple chooses to make their engagement known to the public by publishing it on newspaper, they should ask the society editor the right time to do it. Usually, newspaper editors accept notifications three to six months before the wedding date.

Usually, it is the bride's parents who handle the processing of the announcement. A typical newspaper announcement carries the following information: the name of the bride and groom and of their parents', their residential addresses, and the wedding date.

Providing an engagement portrait in the announcement is optional. In the previous years, it was only the bride who was permitted to be photographed for this purpose. But trends do change and today the bridal couple are allowed to be photographed together for their engagement portrait.

Since it will be published on newspaper, it only follows that the bride and groom should seek the help of a professional photographer who deals with Wedding photography or more specifically, bridal photography. These kinds of wedding photographers are familiar with the requirements for capturing engagement portraits, such as how bridal couples should pose for their engagement portrait or what kind of photography style they should go for.
