Steam punk clothing is about more than just Victorian style, futuristic science fiction and an edge of the industrial feel. The subculture that gave rise to the fashion statement called steampunk first appeared during the 1980s. Just as with other movements, those who are devoted to this one enjoy looking the part and adding their own touch to current fashion.



When mentioning learning how to dress steam punk some might believe that all it takes is throwing on Victorian dresses, vintage goggles, metal accessories, or corsets and calling it good. So,what is real steam punk fashion? Your answer can be found on the Internet, at niche boutiques and specialty shops.

If you are interested in learning about the culture of steampunk, but have not yet immersed yourself in the culture, the best thing to do is perform some research so that when you are ready you will know how to put together steampunk costumes. Even though Victorian style clothes are the basic elements in this genre, the transformation really takes place in the added details. Some people use Mason jar lids and leather scraps to fashion metal goggles that are sometimes hard to come by.

Any fashion statement is simply not complete unless you have the right footwear which includes granny lace up boots for women, work boots or shoe spats for men to make the perfect look. Old glasses, parasols, canes, lacy fans, and pocket watches as well as other vintage items are the right way to go with steampunk fashion.

Dressing steampunk has no hard set rules. Just go with whatever feels right for you.
