Music has been bringing people together for hundreds of years; in fact even before language was conceived, music in its rawest form was used as a means of communication. So many different kinds of music exist today and each one has many connotations.
House music is a genre of electric dance music that actually originated in the American city of Chicago, home to prohibition and a lot of colourful history! It made i's first appearance in the early 1980's and after working it's way across the US it transitioned over to Europe where it has been filtering into the mainstream since. Funky house, deep house, commercial house and electro house are all types to have developed since it's initial inception.
However mainstream house has become, it has yet to take over from what still remains the most popular genre - adequately named Pop music. Pop simply stands for popular and is most commonly attributed to boybands and girlbands and is music written for every demographic. Nowadays particularly, pop music has become bridged with other genres, meaning that whatever is 'pop' at the time will be pop on the radio. It is regarded perhaps as easy-listening, something for the masses to hear and enjoy, not very often offensive and therefore very often top of the charts.
One type of music that fails to reach the top of the mainstream charts yet still has a massive following is classical music. You could ask anyone of any age who Beethoven was and they would be able to tell you, regardless of whether they were aware of any of his compositions. Classical music seems to remind people of an enlightened age, when the beauty of the orchestra working in tandem was simply breathtaking. This has come around again, with classical artists becoming very well known again thanks to the now televised Classical Music Awards and a dedicated chart just for classical songs.
As a stark contrast to classical electro music is also well known and has it's own following. Out of the mainstream and with a more specific crowd electro music is based in rhythm and comes from funk samples and the use of TR-808 drum machines, making a heavy and unique sound. There is much distortion in the sound too and rarely any vocals.
Then we have rock music! Rock bands have been prevalent in the world of music for decades, in fact many touring today were touring when rock music first became popular. The Rolling Stones and The Who, for instance, still tour today despite their collective ages being over two hundred. Rock music has many influences including blues, country and metal to name a few, but the constant within every rock band is the guitar. Electric guitars create such a sound that they can be used to connote many emotions, from sad ballads to party songs and this versatility has instilled its popularity in every generation of music fan.
