By Linda Ruiz

Taking pictures is a nice way of preserving memories. Most people take pictures to use as a keepsake for very important memories shared with their loved ones. You should learn how to take up the said hobby though. If you do, then you can preserve memories shared with important people. You should learn more about Melbourne family photography then.

First, you should think about taking pictures in mini-groups. You can say that the portrait you take with your parents and siblings simply consist of multiple mini-groups within one large group. For the shots you take with your camera, you better make use of groups composed of two or three people to make a better portrait.

It is an important point to remember levels. It is a vital element to a group shot for you to vary the levels of the subjects you are using for the portrait. You can take charge of this by placing some of the faces higher than others. Through this, you can make those shots you take with your camera more intimate in terms of spacing.

Consider the color as well. It is not really important to think about color coordination when it comes to group shots. However, you can still use this to help with the overall flow of the portrait. You can have the subjects you are using for your shots to go by types of the colors. Examples are bold, pastels, vibrant, etc.

Lighting is also an important aspect to take into account, but do not stress yourself over it. For the lighting that you have to use for the shots, make sure that it is even. The lighting should make the eyes of all your subjects visible. The faces of these subjects should also be lit in a relatively similar manner.

It will be good for you to pick a shade where you can do the pictorial. If you are doing the pictorials at sun down, right around five in the afternoon, then you should be able to get a good sidelight almost anywhere. However, in cases when you need to take the picture before this hour, then try to find awnings and shaded places to diffuse harsh sunlight.

When taking pictures, it is better if you do it quickly. You should prepare a plan beforehand of how you plan to proceed with the pictorials. Not only will this allow you to save on time, you can also have a proper idea on what you like the pictorial to turn out. To make a plan, you just need to prepare a storyboard.

While it might be important for you to stick to the plan for the pictorial, nothing hurts with being fun and spontaneous. Aside from the actual shots you have planned, try to take shots of your parents walking together or your siblings being in a goofy pose. You can capture more genuine expressions through such shots.

Background work is important for this too. Especially if you have a larger party, you will have less control in terms of eliminating the background. It is better for you to simplify your shots by changing angles or from taking your shots from the ground. Try to feature the entire group without any distractions in the picture.
