Steps In Making Narrative Drawings

By Ida Dorsey

Drawing is not about how good you are, but it is more into the ideas that you want to imply. It does not mean that realistic drawings are not good. The main point here is that, no matter how bad your drawing skills is and your ideas are quite good, then that should be okay.

Drawings can be used in various types. It can be through shirt printing, tattoo, logo design and some other products out there that requires an illustration. If you want to study narrative drawings, then you have come to the right place. We will try to introduce to you to some of the basic steps that you have to undergo in doing this kind of illustration.

Primarily, you need to start with a concept, which is what mostly drawing starts. Imagine anything that you can imagine and illustrate that, if you can. By doing that, you will have a clear idea in mind on what you should create. This is difficult in some ways, but if you just open up your mind to some other possibilities, that should be okay.

Once you finish creating your concept, you can then proceed to the second stage which is the narration part. This is where the main story comes into play. You have to create a story in every shape that you make through the drawing process. For instance, if it is a line, you can narrate it as a road that most people cross or something like that.

Now, it is time for the illustration. It is not that necessary that you know how to draw. Just a basic shape and that should be fine. Before you create a step by step story, make an overview first on what it looks like when it is finish. In that way, it would be easier for you on how to narrate the process. In narrating, be sure that the words you are saying corresponds to what you are illustrating.

Right after the sketching, you can then select an outliner that you want to utilize. Most artists prefer a colored pen or a marker. If your design composed of colors, then the colored one is the best way to go. However, if you like black and weight portraits, then go for the marker instead. Be careful in using this, because it might smudge.

For some, creating ideas is a difficult task. You have to be very creative in order for you to do this. This is not always the case. In fact, every person has ideas, but they are just not that confident to show it to the world.

Last step but not the least, is the presentation. This is where you finish everything up and ready to show it to your audience. If you are proud of you work and you are okay to show it to the world, then share to some social networking sites out there.

Keep in mind that giving is not always an option. If you failed in the first try, then try it again until you get what you want. It might take some time, but for sure the results will be worthwhile.
