A Little Something About Whiskey

"Water for Life" is the meaning of the word Whiskey, and it has been one of the most popular beverages consumed by hundreds over many years. Whiskey originated in Scotland in the early 1400's. Made from fermented grain mash, using grains like wheat, rye, barley and corn. Once distilled it is aged in Oak casks. The flavour is still relatively the same as the original made all those years ago. Distillers are committed to preserving their heritage and continually refine their product. Some add a smokey flavour, while others distil their whiskey as much as three times to give a smoother taste.

Whiskey is a wonderful drink for many occasions. Many weddings favour whiskey, as the bride and groom often toast each other to signify their relationship will stand the test of time, just like whiskey has. Ceremonial events have whiskey as the drink for their toasting occasions. Friends will use whiskey to toast each other as a sign of friendship.

Whiskey also makes an excellent gift for friend's, employees and business contacts. Executives may find that a whiskey at the end of a stressful day helps them relax and many business deals are made over a tot of whiskey. The mellow taste of whiskey has helped many a business deal conclude successfully. Sometimes imbibing in an excess of whiskey, may make someone feel like they are" The King Of The World".

Scotland has many distilleries of whiskey. Johnny Walker is perhaps the most famous one of all. It is sold in red, black, blue and green labels. The Glenfiddich distillery can be found in the highlands of Scotland. It was established in 1820 and produces a pure malt whiskey. The name Glenfiddich means" Valley of the Deer "in Gaelic. Ballantines Scotch Whiskey was a favourite of the late Queen Victoria and The late King Edward, it is distilled in Dumbarton.

Ireland also has quality whiskey. Jameson's Irish whiskey was established in Dublin in 1780. It has been distilled three times to give it a smoother taste. Tullamore Dew, established in 1820 in Tullamore County, Offaly, is a favourite to use in the making of Irish coffee.

Discerning people will have a preference as to how they enjoy their tipple of whiskey. While some prefer to sip it straight, others like to pour it over ice to take that sharp "bite' out of it. There are some who like to add coke. Thousands of people all over the world consume whiskey and it is one of the most popular alcoholic beverages on the market today. It is an excellent drink for all social occasions or just to have in the home.

It is an excellent gift for friends and business acquaintances, and will keep for many years, Improving with age.
