Why Violin Hand Posture Is Required

By Beryl Dalton

Practicing over and over again, as they say, is one of the ways that you can master something. The best example for this is taking command of an instrument. It is always encouraged that you should divert some of your interest in knowing how to play some of the musical instruments because they are believed to have health benefits.

If you are still thinking of the next piece of instrument you want to learn, you can go for the violin. It has the power to captivate people with just its sounds and it does not stray too far away from the guitar and the piano. But you also have to put in all the effort that you have if you want to master it. And when you are practicing, always remember to use the proper violin hand posture.

It is important to follow the right positioning of hands because it will help you endure through the longer hours of rehearsals. And it will not cause certain damages to the joints. There are types of postures that you can follow when you are actually holding the instrument. But you can follow one that you are comfortable with.

Before you go to practice, stretch first. This will allow you to relax your muscles and prepare them for their work. If you can notice, this is what athletes do before they go to the game and after they play as well. Since the muscles being used in playing an instrument is more specific, see to it that they are well stretched.

It is basic knowledge that one should always sit up straight. You need to make sure that your back and spine is straight. This is also applicable in being a musician. If you ever choose to sit, be certain that you are sitting right. This will help avoid having back aches afterwards. And if you keep it up, you will also not have to endure bad posture.

Shoulder pads are very essential because sooner or later, you would feel the ache in the part where your muscles and the hard wood touches. There are musicians who do not prefer to wear this because it is bulky and they are uncomfortable. But, with the many available options in the market, you will surely find the type that you need. If you do not want something that is bulky, it is also available today.

When you start playing, you should also see to it that you always grip the bow in a relaxed manner. This will make it easier for you to control it. And if you do not practice this, you will always feel the pressure in your wrist. This can cause serious damage to the joints in your wrist. This is what you should avoid from happening because you might not be able to play longer if you try to push it.

Keeping your musical sheets on eye level is a small act to do to help you avoid hunched back and back pains. With this, you do not have to slouch in order for you to see the sheets. This usually happens when you are standing. So when practicing, it is recommended that you sit.

Always having the time to practice is a good thing. But when all you do is practice, you may not have the energy to do it for the next days. You will have muscle aches all over and this is not a good sign. Try to limit your hours and increase them gradually according to your ability. Do not do this abruptly.
