How To Make A Fashion Style Drawing

By Lena Stephenson

Now if one is going to be a fashion designer, then he has to take note of how to draw a figure because figures in this field are drawn differently as compared to contemporary art. Now for those who would want to enter into this field, here are some tips on how to do fashion style drawing. Sketching figures is entirely different and also a little bit more complex.

Now one very important thing to take note about drawing these specific types of figures is that everything about them is exaggerated. For one, the shadows of the clothes as well as the folds are highly exaggerated in order for the clothes to be more highlight. Also, the body parts and the poses of the models are also very exaggerated too.

Now the very first step to making a figure would be to get an old magazine and use some tracing paper to trace the silhouette of a picture of a model there. This is something that most beginners would do because most of them would have a hard time coming up with an outline from scratch. So get a pencil, a bunch of tracing paper, and a ruler in order to do this.

Now from the silhouette that has been traced from the magazine, one should make a puppet outline. Now what most artists would do before they draw people is that they would first make an outline in the form of a standing wooden puppet. This is done that they will have a guide wherein they can draw the details of the figure.

After one has already created the puppet outline, then he can start creating his model with the clothes. To do this, all he has to do would be to first use a pencil to draw the shape of the face, the head, the arms, and all the other body parts using the outline as a basis. Now as stated above, the body parts have to be exaggerated which means that one would have to draw longer arms, a longer torso, longer legs, and a smaller head.

Of course with the aid of the outline, he can start drawing the clothes and adding some exaggerated folds. Once one has already finished that, then he has to trace the pencil sketch using a black inked pen in order to shade all of the important details. Once he has done this, then he has to make sure that the pencil marks are also erased.

Another thing that one has to do is to always exaggerate all proportions. Maybe give the model sassy hairstyles or some accessories that are not usually seen. Of course the poses have to be exaggerated as well like when one would look at a model from the runway.

Basically, these are some of the steps that beginners can follow. Now if one is already quite good, then he does not need to trace the outline of a model from a magazine anymore as he can just create his own original outline with his own pose. He may also experiment with some original styles that he comes up with.
