Kai was the first son of a blacksmith, who was the owner of the Four Weapon shop. He had a small sister and both of them were raised by their father. They were not aware of the truth that their mother and father were the Elemental masters of Fire and Water. After the death of his father Kai took all the responsibilities of the family and also ran the business, and went on to surpass his father's skills as a blacksmith.
Kai and Nya together worked as a blacksmith when one day an old man comes to visit them. The old man started complaining about the tools as they were not appropriate for a ninja. The old man was later found to be Sensei Wu, who returns back to save Kai from the danger of Samukai and the skeletal army.
Gru , is the Super villain who never likes to be defeated by any other villain and keeps on thinking of plans that can help him to get on top of the criminal list. In this chunk he has an evil rival, his nemesis, a braniac super villain, Vector. He is on the top of the list and the holds the Title of the World's Top Super Villain, a title given to the one who is most intelligent and very evil.
He was taken to the Monastery of Spinjitzu, where he was given proper training as a Spinjitzu master, so that he could save his sister and all other Ninjago. In the Monastery Kai acknowledges other Masters of Spinjitzu and with them he starts his first conquest to find all the four Golden weapons, the Sword of fire, Nunchucks of Lightning, Shurikens of Ice and the Scythe of Quakes.
With the help of the weapons and his friends he later moves on to save his sister from the underworld and gets her back to home. Along with friends he goes on many other conquests too. The conquests are divided into different series of Ninjago.
The appearance given to Kai by the Lego was very interesting. He is mostly found in red attire, has brown spiky hair and always found to have a more focussed expression on his face. Being named the Red Ninja of Fire he was found to be very hot-headed, totally justifying his elemental affinity. Very capable of making careful observation when the need arises, he was often found to be overlapped with the emotions. Earlier he found it difficult to get along with other Spinjitzu master but later came to be friends with them.
Kai is generally found to use swords whenever he gets into a fight. He first used a curved blade to fight the Skulkin when his shop was attacked by them. Before it was lost, Kai preferred to use the Sword of Fire as his primary weapon, later switched to the use of regular katanas.
Later in the series he gets the Elemetary Blade which also allowed him to increase his elementary Fire skills too. Later Kai and his friends come into contact with the Techno Blades. He and his friends are also known to have a Blade that can destroy ghosts, Aeroblade.
