Using A Faux Fur Rug To Enhance A Space

By Roger Cooper

Being able to properly decorate an interior space is most definitely an art. A faux fur rug can add a lot of value to the aesthetics of a space, especially when used strategically. There are many different ways to use an item like this to achieve a desired effect. There are also a number of benefits to using this particular type of product instead of its alternatives.

Faux fur is also known as fake or synthetic fur. It costs a lot less than real fur, naturally, and therefore is a much more desirable material by default for many. Technology has come so far that it is very difficult to tell the difference between fake fur and real fur nowadays in products like these, and anyone can easily be fooled into thinking a fake fur rug is real. Truth be told, fake fur offers a much wider variety of options as well.

With faux fur, the range of sizes and colors is practically endless. Buyers can opt for a more realistic-looking rug, with the hairs able to imitate that of a number of different animals, such as chinchilla, fox, bear, tiger, mink, leopard or zebra. Naturally, the closer to the real thing the material resembles, the more expensive it is likely to be.

On the topic of animals, one of the major benefits of deciding to purchase synthetic materials is that it reduces the harm to animals in such products. This is a great option for anyone who is supportive of animal rights but still desires the visual effect of the material in their space. Fake fur has become more and more popular thanks to the advocacy of animals rights groups such as PETA. Additionally, rugs made of real animal hides require a great deal of maintenance and attention that is not necessary for false fur.

Because the synthetic fur can be cut to practically any shape or size, these rugs can be used as accent pieces or area pieces. An accent rug is usually much smaller, and is used to emphasize or complement a particular piece of furniture in the room. Accent rugs can be placed under coffee tables, at the foot of the bed or in a reading corner by a favorite chair.

Use an accent rug to add some color to a space. This is a great idea if you have a special theme or color palette in mind. Synthetic materials are easy to dye, so you won't be short of options when it comes to finding a specific color. You can use a colorful rug in your children's room or play room, or if you have a retro theme or monochromatic scheme to bring life to.

Area rugs are much larger and therefore must be placed strategically for balance. Proportions are key when it comes to using an area rug, so taking the correct measurements is a must. As well as the size, the shape of the piece in question is also very important. Rugs come in all sorts of shapes, from ovals, circles, squares and rectangles to other more creative styles.

Cleaning instructions are usually included and should be followed carefully, so that the product lasts longer. Synthetic materials can be washed by hand or machine, but this should be done with a very mild detergent and cold water. Dry cleaning is also a possibility. It's equally important to brush and fluff the fur.
