No formal education is needed for one to work as a photographer. However, to be better placed in the industry, one should take a degree course in photography. One improves skills and chances of getting a job by attending such courses. Other routes for qualifying in the field also exist. One may also still work in this industry if they have skills in related industries.

One can take a course in photography from various educational institutions, including community and junior colleges, universities, private technical schools, vocational-technical institutes, and private trade schools. There are many processes, equipment, and techniques covered in training courses. Some of the additional skills that one needs to be proficient in this field include business, marketing, and accounting.
