A Buyer's Guide To Choosing Adult Coloring Books

By Donna Barnes

Many people are trying to find ways to relax and reduce the stress that they feel on a daily basis. One way to do this is through coloring. Adult coloring books have become incredibly popular and can be found in many different stores as well as online. If you think you might want to get in touch with your inner artist and try one, here are a few things to look for when you shop.

Some of the images can have a lot of very fine detail. This can really draw you in and make you focus on the task at hand but for some people detail will only make them feel more stressed. You may want to try and print out a few sample images until you know what level of detail is enjoyable to work on.

The size of the book you get is also important. Some people want to be able to color while they are commuting to and from work. In this case, a smaller book might be better because it is more portable. For people who want to work on images at home, this consideration is less important.

Finding this type of book isn't hard. In the beginning, it was only possible to find isolated images on the internet. There were sites that you could visit that had printable pictures for coloring. Now, however, these books have become so popular that many book stores and department stores carry them as well. This makes it easy to find options to choose from even if the selection is a little overwhelming.

The paper that the images are printed on is very important. You want to make sure that the paper is nice and smooth. This will mean that it will take a layer of color well and not tear if you are trying to color forcefully.

Many coloring books are designed with bindings that will make the pages lay flat. This makes it a lot easier to work on. Some books will end up flipping shut and you will need to keep opening them as you work. This can mean it will take a lot longer to color in a page. Another good option is to choose a book that has perforated pages so that they can be pulled out when you want to work on them.

What you use to color with is as important as the book. Some individuals like to use markers while others prefer colored pencils. If you are working on images that have a lot of fine detail you might want to look for fine markers or pencils since they can be sharpened. You might also want to make sure that if there are images on the back of the pages that the color you add does not bleed through the paper.

Once you start looking around for options you will be amazed at how many different options there are. From simple images to very complex mandalas, all of them have the ability to make you forget your stress for awhile and reconnect with your inner child.
