A Brief Overview Of The Most Dominant Hip Hop Record Labels

The performing arts industry is one that generates billions of dollars in revenue each year in the US. Some of the best artists started out of nowhere and have made a fortune for themselves using their talent. However popular some rappers are, the untold truth is that their fame is heavily pegged on the strength of the hip hop record labels they represent.

The passing of the years has seen the rise and fall from glory of many recording houses. The ones that have weathered the many storms in the business have grown to be famed all over the world. While there is no specific order to the list below, it profiles some groups that fall in this category and the rappers associated with them. Most renowned labels started in the 90s and at the ushering in of the new millennium.

Starting off the list is Shady Records. Its founders are Paul Rosenberg and the rapper Eminem who have seen it produce many hits since 1999 when they founded it. Its inception took place after the debut album of Eminem was released. It keeps churning massive hits despite is small number of artists.

The label that follows is Aftermath. It had a significant role to play in the expansion of Shady Records. The group came to be in 1996 when Dr. Dre, the rapper cum billionaire businessman, founded it. Eminem is on record saying Dr. Dre helped mentor him when he was starting out back then. Eminem first rose to prominence through the group.

Many rap enthusiasts never fail to mention Death Row Records when discussing the best groups. It is famous for housing classic and talented rappers. Its artists are also known to be unique in style and composition. However, the group was the subject of conspiracy theories after the demise of Tupac and Biggie, two rappers who were at the top of their game at the time.

A worthy mention is the Def Jam Music Group. Its widespread influence can be felt in all corners of the globe. Notable acts under it include Ja Rule, Beastie Boys, Nas, DMX and Jay Z. In the early 2000s, new prospects such as Pusha T, Rick Ross, Kanye West and Young Jeezy joined the group and excelled through it. Its many global accolades arguably crown it as the best modern recording ensemble.

Another important mention is Cash Money Group. Some noteworthy artists in its books include Hot Boyz, Lil Wayne and Drake. These artists have maintained their style despite massive influence from equally popular genres like RnB.

Capping the list is Maybach Music Group. Rick Ross is credited with its founding. While its music is top notch, its distribution branch is overseen by Atlantic Records. The group has great acts like Wale, Meek Mill, Ross himself and Omarion. It has produced 21 albums from the time it began in 2009.

There are plenty of other groups that are picking up pace. The industry undoubtedly has a lot on the table for would be musicians and people who want to invest in it. With time, the success of new entrants will come to light.
