level more efficiently in Star Wars: The Old Republic

By Donnetta Show

The MMO genre was turned upside down this year when Star Wars The Old Republic was introduced. The storyline is quite interesting and the players are amazing, but the grind is extremely boring. Leveling is as bland as can be and it never gets much better. I was upset to find that this is still the same in SWTOR, so I picked up a guide to help me ease my way through the grind. It was amazing how fast I leveled.

I am one of those people who hate to use a strategy guide, but it was my best chance for leveling with my friends. I was able to level faster than people who played much more and hit level 50 in a mere 2 days. This allowed me to join an elite guild and see endgame content way faster than I would otherwise. This was great because I have very limited time and really have to optimize my playing time. I was also able to jump into Warzones and fight some really skilled players. When leveling, I knew where to go and how to get there. Now, I am fully decked out in amazing gear and playing in one of the top guilds.

How a SWTOR guide helped my progression

If you have ever played another MMO, the leveling is pretty much the same. Kill a certain amount of these, pick up this, collect that and it gets boring. A guide showed me where all of my quest mobs were, how to get to them and where they spawned. While other players were searching for mobs, I was finishing my quests. It was a great feeling. Before I looked at my guide, I was stuck looking for mobs and dying a lot. The guide I used covered all of the quests, bosses and spawn points for easy leveling. It allowed me to make the most out of my very limited time. SWTOR does have a pretty good system for quests, but it is nothing compared to the details the guide had.

Leveling is often much harder because you don't know the right build for your toon. While there are many decent ones, there is always one that will push out the most damage or healing. This allows you to kill mobs much easier and not die. If you are a group player, tanking and healing is also much easier with the right build. If a different specialization was chosen, I wouldn't have leveled quite as fast.

Crafting and gathering is always boring in MMO games. Your toon has to go on an endless grind of obtaining materials and the benefits are usually lackluster to say the least. However, SWTOR is much different because their crew skills include crafting, gathering and a bunch of extra side quests. I have capped all of them fairly easily with a guide and using my companions effectively. My companions were always sent to pick up the most vital resources while I leveled and did missions. I knew what planet each resource was found on and I always had the best possible gear. It was great!

Playing PvP is always one of my most favorite parts of a MMO. I get to match my skills against other players and learn from them. It makes everyone an overall better player. I was able to learn vital tactics from a strategy guide that allowed me to kill a ton of people in every Warzone.
