What Kind Of Home Theater Components Do You Need?

By Rebecca Lane

When you want to set up a home theater, there are a few must have home theater components that you just can't be without. When figuring out what equipment to include, always consider the size of your entertainment room first.

For larger rooms, naturally you need home theater components that can produce big sounds. If you set up in a too small space and you get a too powerful sound, then the sound quality will be noticeably poor.

For example, consider the cars that drive up next to you at a stoplight. The music is so loud and booming from the small space in the car that you can hear the crackling and noise from the speakers.

Not too many people consider the difference in sound when the room is carpeted versus when the room isn't. What about lighting? Is it natural? Or probably recessed? You need to factor this in as well.

Once you've settled on a room, one of the main components you need to get is the video display device. In layman's terms, we would be referring to a screen. It could be a large screen television. Or what about a screen designed for home theaters? Or maybe that old 25-incher of yours wasting away in the living room?

Your system's visual quality is very important, and all three types of screen could produce different results. The best types of televisions to consider with a home theater are either the rear projection or front projection television. A front projection TV isn't an actual television, per se. The screen would be cloth, and the machine would be more of a film projector.

The next component you'll need is the receiver or the combination. Just look for items listed as amplifier combination components and you're all set. You can find a receiver that will include the components you need so that you don't have to buy them separately if you don't want to.

Some top brands of DVD players have the surround sound receiver already build right into the unit so you don't have to buy separately. You'll find those combinations usually sold as a set in a prepackaged deal.

Again taking into consideration the space and size of your entertainment area, be sure to choose the right number of speakers. Four speakers would be an ideal amount if you have good quality speakers, but some recommend buying six speakers for optimum sound quality in larger rooms. If your sound system's too loud, you risk ruining your overall sound quality. Don't be skint with the speakers - this is one area where quality matters more than saving money.
