People Who Can Learn From Child Abuse Survivor Stories

By Shari Swanson

A person who has survived an abusive past may want to help others avoid the same situation that he or she endured. Telling others of their child abuse survivor stories can be a therapeutic way for that individual to move on with his or her life. People who wish to recognize an abuser's behavior may find it helpful as well to listen to these survivors' lessons.

People who were enticed to trust their abusers often did not recognize the signs that may have warned them of the impending danger. Their abusers may have seemed charming and trustworthy at first. It was only after these individuals were trapped that they recognized that danger that lay ahead of them.

When they free themselves from their abusers, people may decide to make the most of their situations and help others. They want to instruct other potential victims on how to avoid being trapped by an abuser's lies. Many people do not suspect that the charming and seemingly trustworthy individuals in their lives could turn dangerous.

Moreover, these accounts might instruct women on keeping their children safe. Some single mothers want so desperately a relationship that they accept the first man to show any interest in them. They believe that few men want a relationship with a woman who has children. After she becomes involved with this person, however, she may discover that the man is abusive to both her and her kids. Once this behavior starts, she often does not know how to escape the relationship.

Children likewise might need to learn these lessons. Adults in positions of authority sometimes lure children into trusting them. Kids do not have the forethought to consider whether these individuals might hurt them. Children are often considered to be easy targets for abusers.

For that reason, child abuse survivor stories can be lessons of value for many people. Women, children, and others may not recognize the warning signs of a potentially abusive circumstance. By hearing what others went through, they can learn about keeping themselves safe.
