PlayStation Line Of Consoles

By Tan Yong Ming

The word "PlayStation" is such a generally used term to the common consumer. Many people do not realize it is not a simplistic way to reference one particular game console, but rather the entire series that Sony Computer Entertainment both created and developed. 1994 marked the beginning of a miraculous decade of technology that includes handheld gaming devices, a slew of controllers, official magazines, convenient online services, a dazzling media center, and three reputable home gaming consoles.

The original game console was meant for home use and launched in the early 1990's, selling over 100 million units within the first ten years. Its follower, the PlayStation 2, produced over 150 million units by January of 2011. While the third system did not make as large of an initial impact, it has slowly picked up momentum. By the end of March 2012, the PlayStation 3 sold over 63 million units worldwide.

In order to keep up with the expanding technology, Sony released a portable version, known as PSP, which was soon followed by the PlayStation Vita. They attempted to market the PSX, which was a video recording device. Due to lower demand and higher costs, the launch never made it outside of Japan. Similarly, the Sony Bravia went down the same path. Shifting their focus, Sony began to perfect some already booming developments.

After re-focusing their efforts, those same executives made a rather shocking find, one that has been called DualShock. It involves the feeding of vibrations from the action on the screen into the handset, the one held by the gamer. Gamers welcomed the opportunity to actually feel like their bodies were engaged in a particular action. Retailers witnessed a big demand for the new controllers, those that integrated players into the game.

Today the Playstation Network has expanded the market for those things that highlight the game's noteworthy elements. That market includes things like stores that sell Playstations and services that satisfy the multiple needs of PlayStation-crazy gamers. As a result, gaming has become an easy and affordable way for staying occupied, during a period of free time.
