The Benefits of In ground Fiberglass Pools

By Chloe Gib

The construction of a home pool can use one of several different materials. In ground fiberglass pools are made of a hard, molded material instead of flexible vinyl lining or hard concrete. There are multiple advantages to them, compared to the other choices.

Installation for a vinyl or concrete pool can take weeks, or even months. While this is going on, access to your yard is limited, construction supplies are lying around, and people are wandering in and out. Ten years is a typical warranty on a concrete pool, but it is not uncommon to find 25 on a fiberglass pool. Vinyl linings usually only have warranties related to leakage of the lining, which come in variable lengths.

The maintenance requirements of this type of pool are limited. They don't need to be drained, even when it freezes, and cleaning and washing are done less frequently to maintain the same hygiene standards as a concrete or vinyl pool. There are fewer specialized washes requires, and the material itself comes coated with a gel that retards the growth of bacteria and algae.

Fiberglass pool prices are more honest than those of other options, because there isn't a lot of extra work required. Maintenance and repair costs are usually not significant, which means that you can spend more on the pool without spending more on the overall cost. You also don't have to dedicate valuable time to the upkeep of the pool.

People who buy fiberglass pool kits don't get any nasty surprises, either. The pools are made from professional molds and all come out exactly the same. Unlike a concrete or vinyl pool where the appearance of the final result depends at least partially on the skill of the installer, these inserts will create the same perfect product each time.

Other benefits of this type of pool include the fact that it is compatible with salt water and the fact that it has a non-abrasive surface with no sharp edges. Salt water is becoming the preferred option for many people, but it can degrade other types of lining materials. Choose your desired model from a catalog, and get a wide variety of options including variable depth, built-in seating, and other features.

In ground fiberglass pools are a great alternative to the more common concrete types. They are sturdy and will hold up well for years, and most come with a warranty that reflects this. They provide a smooth surface without the abrasive nature of concrete or the slipperiness of vinyl. Limited maintenance means limited costs, and fast installation means you could have your pool functioning in a day or less.
