Austin Summer Drawing Classes Are Beneficial In Ways You May Not Have Thought Of

By Elizabeth Ellis

Well before the end of the school year most parents are planning summer activities for their kids. They know it won't take long before children start complaining they don't have anything to do. You may not be able to organize every day of their vacation, but you can enroll them in some camps that are actually affordable. In addition to fun, Austin summer drawing classes, for example, have long term positive benefits.

A lot of the kids who take art classes have no particular talent for it. They often have to be convinced that participating in an art class will be fun. If kids give the class a chance, they pretty quickly come to the realization that this is one place where they can't fail. Each drawing is specific to them and is perfect in its own right. Kids are free to express themselves, problem solve, and think creatively. To do this they will need both sides of their brains.

Good art teachers use creativity to bolster self-esteem in their young students. They know creating artworks increases dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is a motivator. It helps kids stay focused and makes them more able to concentrate. This, in turn, allows them to resist distractions in order to achieve their goals. When your child brings home a piece of art, you should find a conspicuous place to hang it where it can be admired by everyone who passes by. You will give your child the gift of self-worth and a sense of accomplishment.

Art has academic benefits for the kids who get involved in it. It increases attention spans, improves IQ and fluid intelligence, and develops brain flexibility. Music is another art form that improves academic performance. Studies have shown significant improvement in math, language and reading. Both art forms increase blood flow to the brain.

A lot of people don't realize what a boost to better health art can be. Art therapy is extremely effective for kids who have chronic and debilitating illnesses. Expressing themselves verbally isn't always easy. Painting pictures to explain their feelings gives adults a sense of how the child is dealing with his particular situation. Completing an art project gives him a sense of accomplishment.

Art is a stress reducer for healthy kids as well. Creating art serves as a distraction for your brain, and that gives it a chance to relax. Anyone who has immersed themselves in an art project understands the feeling of being in a special zone of concentration. Meditation works the same way.

There are special camps devoted to disabled and troubled kids. Art class is a big part of these camps. Most employ professional therapists who use painting, drawing, and sculpting to interact with kids suffering from physical, mental, and emotional crises. Children with learning disabilities are helped by working on art projects.

You don't want your kids sitting on the sofa all summer wrapped up in video games, social media, and texting friends. Enrolling them in a camp can be a good idea. You might see a big difference in your child when art opens unexpected doors for him.
