How To Get Indie Rock Music Video Promotion Done

By Eric Stone

Music soothes the savage beast, or so they say. But whether or not any savage beasts are soothed, music is still important. It is art, one of the most complex expressions or artistic talent on the planet. There is so much that goes into it. Tune, lyrics, beat, vocal range of the singer. So many factors go into making a good song.

The culture of celebrity has always fascinated the masses. From the gladiators of ancient Rome sponsoring products to the sex symbol status of various starlets to the adulation heaped upon wave after wave of digital influencers, human society has never been starved for idols. In olden times, statues of these idols were commissioned, not so much in modern times. In the modern era, some of these idols do not become idols at all. They stay underground. They are loved, yes. But only by a handful. But to get that love requires a bit of indie rock music video promotion.

An indie rock band is like a regular rock band. The main difference is that an indie rock band does not have the backing of a major record label. This means that they will not have producers, sound engineers, publicists, or the connections to get an album in retailers. An indie band will also have to pay for recording sessions, touring, and merchandise out of pocket.

Even with corporate backing, promotion can be difficult. A performer can have all the talk show appearances and shows in the world and they will still flop. There is not lightning in a bottle when it comes to music. Talent and showmanship do not always win the day. There is no one factor that decides whether or not an act succeeds.

Of course, social media has created new avenues for bands to get their names out there. Many bands upload their videos and songs onto video streaming services. Some of these channels can bring in hundreds of thousands or even millions of listeners, making the band as famous as any mainstream act. The internet fame can even lead to them being signed by a major label.

But simply promoting about something on the internet is enough. People actually need to see the band perform. As such, an act must take its show on the road and tour, either as part of a sponsored festival or by themselves. This means long weeks on the road.

But getting back to the actual video itself. Anyone can record a music video nowadays. The only items that are necessary are a good phone with a camera and a computer. A halfway decent video can be an exorbitant cost however.

Primarily however, the song has to be good. Audiences can forgive even the most mediocre of videos. But a bad song is never going to get too many plays, unless they are of the ironic variety.

Fame is something that a lot of people. But there are some out there who just want to be creative, who want to make music and play their songs. Now, they will have to play the fame game, not in the least because it is required of them to do so. But also because concessions have to be made to keep doing to good stuff.
