When it concerns with acrylic portrait paintings, individuals will have to determine first what kind of equipment to use before starting to paint.

To add more visual details, use a small brush. Once the major shapes are completed, it would be the time to put on the details. Use a small brush to add the touches and details on the painting. Try out using different tips of brushes to generate different visual effects and sized lines on the canvass.

Choose an ideal location. Portrait should be done perfectly where the place has natural light passing through. Try setting up the canvass near windows or doors that have lots of natural light. There is a difference in visibility when the place full of natural light and not just electrical lights. The colors and brush strokes would be easy to pick out easily and change.

Before switching to a new color, rinse off the brushes first. Hold the paintbrushes on its bristles in tap water to remove the paints. This will make sure that colors will blend or combine together in the bristles. Once the brushes have been rinsed, wipe the tips with clean and dry cloth to prevent from runoff.

Start the painting from the background. When painting, painters will be layering upwards. The easiest way is to move back to front. Make sure to begin with medium colors, next will be followed by darkest colors then the final would be the brightest ones for easy application.

Add some background details. Finish building first the basic ones then add the details for the background. If the color is solid, a few light points and shadows must be added. If the backgrounds are busy or patterned, add movement and textures with a few brush strokes to make the layer complete.

Paint in the subject. When starting for the subject, break it all up in identifiable paint and shapes in solid hues. As the build up of color and shapes takes place, the subject will start to visualize. Some people try to construct an imaginary grid and focus on one grid space at a time before doing the next one. Try to find your own way on how to create the subject or follow others advice or recommendations.
