One common complaint - slow start-up time - can be easily fixed by following directions in the manual: Turn "PW on Start-up" to off, this will keep the camera from loading the logo and the camera is immediately ready for use. Another common complaint is the time it takes in order to shoot the next picture.
I did take about 200 shots that were of a comparable quality to the 720, I have not really checked out closely from the memory card. The 1st time I took it in snorkeling at surface level, I got 1 picture and the controls/screen went haywire. Hey, if you have it on macro, of course the picture will be blurry, if you're taking a picture of the sunset...learn how the camera works before giving it a horrible review. The pictures come out great, as long as you have all the right settings. All in all, the quality is great for what I need it to be. Point, shoot, forget.
The Panoramic auto function has messed up on me a few times by not detecting the edge till late and stitching images together with too big of gap to match. It doesn't have a high depth rating but you get what you pay for and 16ft is more than enough for snorkeling and shallow diving but I wouldn't take it too close to that without an external case.
It was a great buy! It's really fun to use around water, like waterparks, the pool and amusement parks. This camera has a blade type shutter cover over the lens that slips behind the body on operation and is quite clunky. We are thinking of buying another on just for us! The camera is great, just that it didn't come with any real instructions, like most cameras do. The screen is full of water. I am over it. On the river I took numerous pictures with all the settings to be very disappointed. The quality was so terrible; I double checked all the settings to make sure it was not user error. My girlfriend and I took a month long vacation in Nicaragua. We both bought stylus tough series cameras.
My vacation was altered by the fact that the camera didn't do what it said it could do and I will never be able to capture some of the memories I lost due to a defective product. As it stands now, Olympus has lost my patronage for any of their products in the future.
Bottom line: if you are looking for a waterproof camera to take pictures in typical, surface-water type situations, spend the extra $100 and get the Sony TX5. And, if you want a camera for scuba-diving, either buy a scuba specific camera, or just get the additional water housing for a comparatively low price.
If you were talking, sure it's not a problem. So if you take a lot of movies, you might want to go with another camera. Great price and I like the color choice I made. Highly recommend this camera for the adventurous.
