There are a few low profile buttons on the back that are easy to switch settings with using the LCD, no knobs to turn. It is by far the most durable camera that I have had, and waterproof is a nice change. I have taken roughly 2000 pictures and despite sending it to an Olympus rep and reading the manual cover to cover (which I rarely ever do) I still cannot get this camera to focus properly. I actually had to buy a cheap Polaroid digital camera in Rome to salvage some pictures during a recent trip. The pictures have always turned out great, and the waterproof / shockproof casing on it makes it the perfect camera for a klutz like me. The 720p video is great also, with pretty good audio when played off a computer.
We sent it back for repair and they replaced it. We just took it to the beach and AGAIN the battery compartment filled with water.
Definitely a worthwhile purchase for someone that likes adventure and to have fun and not worry about banging around their camera! This camera lives up to expectations.
We used it "in" the falls and were very happy with the pictures that we developed. Got the usual flattering pictures of us in our ponchos getting soaked. Shop around and you can get great prices! Took this camera on a trip to the Caribbean and was very happy with product until last day of trip when it stopped working on us after being in only 3 feet of water-seriously this is supposed to. Operation is aggravating. My wife and I saw this camera in Best Buy and she really liked it. The detail that came out was amazing. It captured the bubbles coming out of our nose and mouths.
While the camera worked very well underwater for snorkeling, it fell short on land. I purchased the camera based on design and durability, believing that a company like Olympus would have figured out how to take digital photos, but I was wrong. So far I like it but as I read before in the reviews the zoom is definitely choppy which I am disappointed in. I took it kayaking and it took some beautiful pictures.
Great price and I like the color choice I made. Highly recommend this camera for the adventurous. Thankfully the seller -- Beach Camera Company -- authorized a return for full refund. The camera feels solid and well made; good user interface, fair number of options for a point-and-shoot. The bundled PC software is bloated and buggy, but that's to be expected.
Not the kind of malfunction you expect from a new camera while on vacation! I am marching my camera over to Olympus Headquarters as soon as I return home!
