By Kay Dalton

Just about anybody can operate a camera. Just make sure you're looking through the lens at your subject, click the button, and bada bing, bada boom, you got yourself a picture. But when the pictures get developed, that's the time the men are separated from the boys, so to say. The individual might notice that the image was too bright, too dark or blurred. These are the common mistakes when the individual does not know the proper way to use a camera. But a photography class could be a means for us to get the training we need to match the talents of the world's professional photographers.

Students who are taking up journalism have this as one of the subjects as part of the curriculum. If the person is majoring in another subject in school, this can be taken as an elective. Those who left school years ago can also enroll in the class for a semester to learn everything about photography.

A camera is prerequisite gear in most of these classes. The person doesn't have to get the model that costs a $1,000 because there are variations selling at half the price.

Lessons always begin at the very start - instructors begin by discussing the parts of the camera and how they work. The individual should know this inside and out to be able to maximize the use of this device.

The proper technique to shoot using the camera is usually the next subject tackled. There are instructors who would ask students to take test shots outside before going in.

Students would then be given an opportunity to give comments about the pictures once developed. This can prove to be useful in helping students focus on their strong points while avoiding making the same mistakes in the future.

Some schools still teach the students how to develop pictures in a darkroom. Though many professionals have decided to have this done by someone else or switch to digital cameras, these are things that the person should know about photography.

Photography class isn't complete without a few short lessons on how to maintain your camera. Everyone needs to keep their cameras in optimum shape, and this part of the course will have this area covered.

You can learn and have fun at the same time in photography class. These classes will serve you well, may you be starting a career in photography or wanting to know how to properly take pictures as a hobby. These are courses anybody of any age can take.
