The calamitous yet stunning ship from Blackbeared, the LEGO Black Pearl

By Diane Guerrero

It has over 500 parts, and includes six figures from the story. Being completed, it stands almost 2 feet high and 21 inches long, which forms an amazing kit that can be terrific for play or as a stand-alone display .

Aside from the regular LEGO package sets, the dark-gray sails are created from real fabric, to give a little more realistic feel to the design. The set includes 3 instruction booklets, and a big size poster .

What you'll find in this set:

- 804 pieces in total.

- Measures 21 inches long x 20 inches high x 5 inches wide.

- Six figures including Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Joshamee Gibbs, Davy Jones, Maccus and Bootstrap Bill.

- A very detailed interior cabin, firing canons, black fabric sails, Jolly Roger pirate flag and anchor.

- Suitable for ages 8-14.

For starters, this makes a great LEGO set for kids aged between 8-14. It's a tough set to work with, but not exceedingly difficult. As an example, a youngster about eight to tens years of age could assemble it in just a few hours, potentially with help from a grownup on a couple of sections, but in general it will be an enjoyable experience for them.

Upon completion, the ship does look fantastic, and there's lots that a youngster can do with it as much as play goes. Captain Jack's in depth cabin to explore, the firing cannons and detachable floorboards are just some of the functions of the set.

The set does a brilliant job at re-creating the story experience, and integrating fabric sails is an added special. LEGO might have satisfied themselves with using just plastic, but the fabric does give a fantastic contrast. Even if not played with, it makes for a fine display ship.

Depending on where you go shopping, this package will set you back considerably, therefore should be shopped around to find the best priceHowever, there are many places where the kit is sold for less than LEGO's recommended retail price, that is definitely fantastic.

Apart from the odd set having missing pieces (which will be sent out to you by LEGO), there's little else to say that is actually negative about the model. Most unfavorable elements of this product are very minor and shouldn't affect your final decision to buy it or not.

In general, this set is very nice and encapsulates the essence of the Pirates series well. The included six figures are the ideal bonus, as extra figures help populate the deck and make the ship look occupied. And in addition they provide even more play options for children. It is both an enjoyable experience to construct and incredibly playable as well. We give this unit a clear thumbs up.
