King Amongst Drinking Card Games

By Michael Germas

In any group of people socializing together there will always be some more extrovert than others, meaning that for the quieter members of the group it may take longer to come out of their shell. Drinking card games are a fabulous way of bringing everyone together, loud or shy, all playing to one set of rules, and before you know it those who previously hung back a little, are suddenly free of their inhibitions and putting their noisier friends in the shade.

Consider some of the following card drinking games:

A very straightforward game to get the event going is one simply called kings. This can easily be played in a public bar or in a private dwelling, just as long as there is a variety of alcohol to hand.

Basically each player is dealt a card and the first person to receive a king picks a drink of their choice. The second player to turn up a king then selects the mixer to go into that drink. The third player receiving a king then either makes or buys the drink (depending on your location), before the fourth person has to drink it. In some cases the same person can end up having to do all 4 if they are unlucky enough to be dealt all for kings.

If you're looking for fun 2 player drinking card games, then look no further, because I'm going to tell you about the game drink the difference. First of all, one of the two players will need to be the dealer, but this can change as often as you wish.

In this game, small groups of players can get together, but each player should be prepared to drink. This game is often played like 2 player drinking card games. The dealer hands themselves and the other player a card. After figuring out the difference in value between cards, players must drink the difference. The name of the game is self-explanatory in this context.

It basically is a game of guessing and begins with the other player dealing 5 cards in an "L" shape, with the corner card face down and the other 4 face up.

The game of Queens accommodates larger groups of players. Each person will get their chance to enjoy themselves here. To start the game, the dealer turns each card from a deck over one by one. An ace allows the dealer to choose someone to take a drink. Queens means the ladies drink, and Jacks move on over to the men. For a king, everybody is required to take a drink. If a card with a number is flipped, then the dealer picks an amount for one player to drink. He or she can also choose a number of people in the entire group to down a shot.

It carries on alternating between red and black and higher and lower, but each time you guess incorrectly, you have to return to the top of the "L".

It is over once you have got to the other end of the "L" or you go through the whole pack, in which case you probably need to go for a lie down!

Drinking games can be great in an emergency, or they can even be a great reason to throw a party.

Of all drinking card games for two, High Low is one of the best options for mixed groups. One person draws cards, and the other player must guess the value. Guessers have to take a drink if they guess an incorrect answer, and then players switch roles each round. Virtually anyone can play High Low, so it's a great party game.
