Birthday Celebrations at Work

By Simon Andrew

Birthday celebrations can be carried out even when you're still at work. In fact, it is ethical because it is also a team building exercise. Some of the people who celebrate their birthday at work may wish that they could have celebrated their birthday better at home. Other staff members may also think that it is a waste of time for their work co-worker to celebrate the birthday at the office. However, there are some ideas that will help you celebrate your birthday while keeping the work atmosphere productive and professional.

Birthday at Work Suggestion 1: Liven up the Place

You can go to the office casually dressed if there aren't any restrictions that don't permit such dressing. There are clothes which are especially intended for birthdays that you can wear. For instance, you can wear a hat and a birthday blow-horns. Your fellow workers will know that it is your birthday even without you telling them because the clothes are typically meant for birthdays. Get the necessary approval that you are celebrating your birthday from the management. Do not start celebrating your birthday with other employees before asking authorization from your boss to do so.

When making plans for the celebration you shouldn't leave your fellow workers out of the plan. For instance, you can take many party hats and birthday party blow-horns so that your co-workers will also enjoy your birthday. Your coworkers are always there when you need an ear to hear you; therefore, they should also enjoy the birthday celebration. Coming up with a theme for the birthday and coordinating the colors and dress code for the day are other ways that you can plan the birthday. If you have received an approval you can come with an office party game that you will play when the time comes.

Birthday at Work Suggestion 2: Have your Cake!

As we all know a birthday party is not complete if there is no cake to crown it. Therefore you can carry your birthday cake as a birthday gift if the management doesn't forbid. If working hours are long, you can pack some cake that you'll share with your coworkers. If your office doesn't allow eating at the workstations, you can arrange for food in the office balcony or at the cafeteria.

Apart from bringing your birthday cake you can prepare a birthday lunch, brunch or potluck dinner. Before you carry food and snacks you should ask your boss. The best type of food to carry is appetisers because they won't fill you up for the entire day and they are not messy.

Some bosses may be kind enough to give you a day off so that you celebrate your birthday. If your office can't give you a day off you can follow the above mentioned ideas so you avoid conflicting with the work schedule. Your boss should also get an invitation to attend the party. In brief birthday celebrations at work should be very enjoyable for everybody who works with you.
