Question: I don't want to be cheap, nor over the top. I have never been in a wedding, so I have experience to draw from. So far, I got them a jewelry set (necklace, earrings and bracelet) they are cute, but not terribly expensive. I am also arranging for a Home spa pampering session. Kind of like a home party without the selling. I'll just be buying them a set of pampering items like body lotion and bath scrub or something like that. Is that enough? Should I add something else? I also let them pick their own style of dress that fit their taste and budget.
Answer: Save yourself some time and the hassle of having to send those pictures. Every bride that I have spoken with wants to save money by ordering online which who can blame them. The problem isn't the poor bride who is just trying to get a dress they fell in love with and then wanted to save money in the process. The problem is all those websites who are taking advantage of the overwhelming emotions associated with purchasing that dress!
I would love to hear feedback on this dress. I am going to have family as well as friends at my wedding including parents, grandparents, aunts and cousins, and while none of us are a TRADITIONAL or conservative bunch, I definitely don't want to offend anyone. In my opinion, if I can wear a bathing suit in front of these people without offending them, this dress should be acceptable. Am I wrong to assume that? I realize a wedding is no place for a bathing suit/bikini, but on any other occasion I would wear this, should I worry about crossing a line BECAUSE of the occasion, or is it acceptable like I am thinking?
Anyway, take the dress to a seamstress who specializes in wedding dresses and she will be able to help you more than trying to get your money back. Taking in a wedding dress, although difficult, can be done. Most dresses are in panels, and layers can be worked with too. You need to see the size chart for the company that makes the dress. Each company has its own sizing. Standard dress measurements are bust, waist, and hip. This is not about the workmanship; this is the size of the dress.
If the gown doesn't need alterations, then you need to ask the storage place what the fee is for you to take it home with no alterations. You don't alter a gown that doesn't need it. If however the gown does need bodice work or hemming, then you'd have to get a quote from the place that's keeping your gown. It doesn't matter what I may think alterations cost, the only price that matters is what that shop is going to charge you so you can get your gown from them.
