Party Schedule: How Long Should the Party Last

By Clinton Nikenya

Any party is successful only if the host has prepared a party schedule. Once you know how long you would like the party to last, then it will be easy to make plans for your party. Some parties can have a finish time while others don't. Examples of parties that don't have a finish time include:

1. Dance parties

2. Celebrations

3. Night time parties

Parties that need a finish time include:

1. A cocktail party

2. Children's birthday parties

3. Parties held at places with a closing time

Dance and celebration parties can be held for the whole night. If you did not indicate the finish time on the invite, you can set the time limit by behaving in a way that suggests it is time to wind up the celebrations. For instance, you can start clearing away the food and drinks or cleaning up. If you did not set a finish time, the guests will notice these subtle hints.

The location can dictate the finish time for events such as weddings. Wedding parties can take more than five hours if the party follows after a wedding ceremony that's held in the afternoon. It's not necessary to set a finish time. Instead let the venue staff decide the best time to finish the party. Most guests are willing to leave once the bride and groom have left the reception, particularly if the party is held at your home.

Children's parties need a finish time particularly if the children are young. For children's parties, two hours is enough to hold the party. The two hours should be used to provide them with food, entertainment, birthday cake, drinks and games. This way they're going to get worn out and entertained at the same time. The party schedule you make should cater for both the negative and positive side.

It is going to be risky to go past this time since the children will be difficult to control. Such parties should be fun and short. Nonetheless, if the kid wants the party to last for three to five hours, you have to ensure that there are many entertainment activities which will keep her or him busy for the entire duration. If it's a sleepover party, a finish time before lunch the following day must be set. After the party is over, the children will be exhausted and dizzy.

For cocktail parties, they should also last for a minimum of two hours. They're usually held before other events such as a concert or the theatre. Therefore, you ought to have little time so your guests will also get time for the after-cocktail event.

Your role as the host is to prepare a party schedule which will determine the finish time. Make sure that the finish time won't ruin the party. Instead, it should suit your needs and meet the requirements of the type of party you are throwing. The finish time should be flexible if there is need to extend the duration for your party.
